Piercing Aftercare

Piercing Aftercare Guide by Sacré

Congratulations on your new piercing from Sacré! Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your piercing heals well and looks beautiful. Follow these steps to keep your piercing clean and healthy.

Immediate Aftercare (First 24-48 Hours)

1. **Leave the Jewelry In**: Do not remove or change your jewelry. The initial jewelry is specifically chosen for healing.
2. **Avoid Touching**: Only touch your piercing with clean hands. Avoid unnecessary handling.
3. **Clean with Saline Solution**: Use a sterile saline solution or a homemade sea salt soak (¼ teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt in 8 ounces of distilled water) to clean your piercing twice daily.

Cleaning Routine

1. **Wash Your Hands**: Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing.
2. **Saline Soak**: Soak a clean gauze or cotton pad in saline solution and apply it to your piercing for 5-10 minutes. Alternatively, you can submerge the piercing directly in a saline bath.
3. **Rinse with Clean Water**: Gently rinse the area with clean, lukewarm water to remove any residue.
4. **Pat Dry**: Use a clean, disposable paper towel or tissue to gently pat the area dry. Avoid using cloth towels, as they can harbor bacteria.

General Tips

- **Avoid Harsh Chemicals**: Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments on your piercing as they can irritate the skin and delay healing.
- **Watch for Irritants**: Keep hair products, makeup, and lotions away from your piercing.
- **Avoid Submersion in Water**: Stay away from pools, hot tubs, and natural bodies of water during the healing period to prevent infection.
- **Clothing and Accessories**: Be mindful of clothing and accessories that may snag on your jewelry.

Healing Times

- **Earlobes**: 6-8 weeks
- **Cartilage (Helix, Tragus, etc.)**: 3-6 months
- **Nostril**: 2-4 months
- **Septum**: 6-8 weeks
- **Eyebrow**: 6-8 weeks
- **Lip and Labret**: 2-3 months
- **Tongue**: 4-6 weeks
- **Navel**: 6 months to 1 year

Remember, healing times vary from person to person. Be patient and diligent with your aftercare routine.

What to Avoid

- **Sleeping on the Piercing**: Try not to sleep on the side with your new piercing to avoid irritation.
- **Changing Jewelry Prematurely**: Wait until your piercing is fully healed before changing the jewelry. If unsure, consult with your piercer.
- **Over-Cleaning**: Cleaning too often can cause irritation. Stick to twice a day.

Signs of a Healthy Piercing

- Minor swelling and redness in the initial days.
- Possible slight itching during healing.
- Minimal discharge that forms a light crust around the piercing.

Signs of Infection

- Severe redness, swelling, or warmth around the piercing.
- Persistent pain or throbbing.
- Unusual discharge (yellow or green pus).

If you suspect an infection or have concerns about your piercing, contact a professional piercer or healthcare provider immediately.
